All the Olas Peru Surf Travel guides are trained professional surfing instructors. They have the knowledge of exactly where to surf depending on weather, tides and swells. They have been surfing all the Peruvian coast and much of Latin America for many years. Furthermore all our instructors and guides are trained in first aid by the Peruvian Red Cross and in Life-Saving methods to ensure our clients their safety.

Our team at Olas Peru Surf Travel lives to surf, and we love sharing our passion for riding waves. We think that there is no greater thing than people inspiring eachother with their knowledge and experience. In our team and also towards our clients we have a open attitude, and always go for clear and transparent communication.

Our team will make sure that our client will have ‘No Worries’ whatsoever during their ‘True Peruvian Surfing Experience’ with us.

Roberto Meza Vallve a.k.a. El Muelas
One of the most renowned Peruvian surfers, and former trainer of Sofia Mulanovich (World Surf Champion 2004, and sub champion in 2005). He has attained five times the title of National surf champion and the Pan-American longboard champion in 2006, currently coaching the Peruvian Surf Federation.

He is a great connoisseur of the history and culture of the Peruvian coast and has carried out courses as surf instructor and lifeguard in Australia. He is member of PASA (Pan-American Surf Association) and dictates Surf School Seminars in the Pan-American Games. Born in Peru in 1968, he has surfed and competed across five continents, having lived in California, in Spain and Indonesia, returning to Peru to found Olas Peru Surf School. He speaks English, Portuguese and Indonesian.

Miguel Vegas Van Oordt a.k.a. Colorado
Knows the Peruvian coast like no other and loves to surf at lonely and unknown surf spots. In 1995 he won the Junior Peruvian National Championship, nowadays he doesn’t compete any more but surfs with his soul. He is a Surfing Instructor, as well as Operations Manager for Olas Peru Surfing School. He studied at the private University of San Martin de Porres in Lima in the faculty of Tourism and Hotel Administration obtaining the degree of Licensed in Tourism Business dedicating his thesis on Surfing Tourism in Peru. After his studies he managed one of the best lodges in the Amazon area of Manu Biosphere Reserve for one year and then he worked 2 years as Park Ranger at the Manu National Park obtaining the first place in the Manu National Park exam for guides. Born in Peru in 1977 and speaks fluent English and some French.

Guides

Harold Koechlin a.k.a. Yellow Man
A soul surfer since the age of 10, he has been surfing all the Peruvian coast and taken part in many surfing expeditions for 18 years. After studying for 2 years Tourism Management at the San Ignacio de Loyola Private University in Lima, he moved to Costa Rica where he surfed and visited many surf spots and natural protected areas during the 3 years that he lived and studied Eco Tourism & Forest and Wildlife Management there. In that time he also worked as tour leader for surfing, adventure and cultural trips. He is always searching for the perfect barrel. Born in Peru in 1978 and speaks fluent English.

Carlos Cabanillas a.k.a Carlitos
Specialized in passing on the art of surfing. Seeing people enjoying and succeeding in learning how to surf is what drives him to teach. Enjoying waves from the age of 14 on the whole Peruvian coast and Florida, United States. He is really interested in getting to know people with different backgrounds and likes to show them his Peruvian culture and its heritage. He is currently finishing his University degree on Tourism Management.

Fabio Castagnino
With his dad as a surfer, and living in one of the most famous surfspots of Peru, he got hooked to surfing pretty quickly. His strong connection to the ocean and his never ending interest in people & perfectioning skills makes him a natural born surf instructor. His connection with surfing as he describes it: ‘I could say it is my life, its my medicine, its my therapy, my battery, but always stays unfullfilled’. Currently he is studying for his University degree on Sustainable Tourism.

The reason why he loves surf photographing and filming: ‘It is just amazing to see a person flowing like one with this creation of nature, the wave. And for me to capture such moments is just incredible’.Exactly, we have could not made a better story out of his words. After first studying videographing, he attention was caught by the art of photographing. He took several courses to perfection his skills, which he is currently showing in his work at Olas Peru. Currently he is finishing his University degree on Media Communications.
